Jessica Schmidt is a litigation attorney who focuses her practice on information governance, particularly litigation preparedness, records and information management (RIM) and privacy. She advises clients across a variety of sectors on best practices and issues related to information use, management and compliance, both domestic and cross-border. Ms. Schmidt works with clients to develop enterprise-wide domestic and global policies, procedures, training modules, and risk assessments to enable them to implement robust information governance programs. Ms. Schmidt also designs and vets domestic and global enterprise record retention schedules and provides strategic and tactical counsel on various information management challenges including e-discovery, management of email and electronic communications, and defensible disposition of documents and data.
Jessica began her career as in-house counsel for a large not-for-profit, where she established a compliance and technology services practice, supervised policy development and designed and implemented internal litigation hold and e-discovery protocols. Prior to joining DLA Piper, Jessica was part of the e-discovery and information governance practice group of a Chicago-based, global law firm, where she managed a variety of RIM and e-discovery matters and provided counseling on issues involving data breach response and US/EU privacy compliance.
